Prescribing

Around 5,000 doctors have prescribed cannabinoid medicines in Australia since legalisation. The Authorised Prescriber pathway is growing in popularity as Authorised Prescribers do not need to notify the TGA each time they prescribe cannabinoid medicine, unlike the Special Access Scheme. Guidance for prescribers can be found on the Therapeutic Goods Administration website.

MCA has a national network of cannabinoid medicine prescribers and pharmacies. We assist this network in supporting a growing number of patients Australia-wide and help them stay up-to-date with the latest medical research.

Dispensing

Cannabinoid medicine is a prescription medication and most pharmacies in Australia can dispense it, although each state & territory have their own requirements for dispensing. Pharmacists are typically provided with an original or e-script as well as evidence of TGA approval before they are able to dispense.

As cannabinoid medicines are unregistered medicines, they cannot be stored by pharmacies on site. Contact us to find out how you can order MCA’s products.
